As AI reshapes the modern workplace, leaders face a critical choice: deploy technology that replaces people, or deploy technology that protects them. This talk argues for the latter.
Drawing on a real-world case from a 150+ branch retail operation in the GCC, Ramy Khafagy shares how his team confronted a practical crisis — a legacy ERP system generating costly errors in waybills and invoices, eroding customer trust and draining employee productivity. The solution wasn't to automate people out of the picture. Instead, they built an AI agent named "Abdul Qawy V2," deliberately honoring the long-serving employee whose manual work it was designed to enhance. Integrated with the Salla e-commerce platform , the agent delivered 100% document accuracy, returned meaningful hours to the team, and elevated the employee from a bottleneck role to a supervisory one — preserving his legacy within the organization.
This talk introduces a framework for thinking about AI as a shield rather than a sword: a protective layer that amplifies human contributions rather than displacing them. Attendees will walk away with a new mental model for human-centered automation, a practical approach to layering agentic workflows onto legacy systems, and the conviction that loyalty, experience, and technology can — and should — coexist. Especially relevant for leaders navigating digital transformation in family businesses and emerging markets across MENA.
